Hi
Though I
realize this is a very short blog but these points are vital and I would love
to share my experience when it comes to software development and building
custom products, there are small and tiny details usually we don't pay attention
to it which cause us pain. Neglecting these
points will only cost frustration over and over during the SDLC
- Invest some time to write some helping routines in order to do your backups procedure these routines will become so helpful during installation or upgrading process and will save tremendous time for you
- Write down a check list for your installation process and make sure you have covered all the points during your installation process
- Track the enhancements among versions, a simple excel sheet will do the task for you
- Never ever go for multiple code versions, it is a nightmare always try to deploy your latest code no matter the pressures are
- Don't push dates if your code is not ready, instead deliver a subset of tested working features instead of unstable features {Focus on how not on Many}
- Try to develop your applications as components, and develop a testing scripts against each component, that will ensure your QA process specially if your team is missing this functionality
